The Greek Mainland

Ancient Athens holds many attractions for those looking for history, including the Parthenon, the Acropolis and the Temple of Athena. South west of Athens, in the Pelponnese region, you can find Mycanae, Olympia and Sparta among the many historic sites, as well as attractive seaside towns. In the northwest there is the long, quiet coastline of Halkidiki, home to Mount Olympus and the birthplace of Aristotle.

The Greek Islands

Crete is the largest of the islands, with much classical history. Chania and Geogioupoulis are popular resorts, with Heraklion providing some nightlife. Corfu, Rhodes, Skiathos, and Zakynthos are among the most popular islands and with Crete all benefit from having their own airports. Paxos can be reached by ferry from Corfu, Cephalonia from Zakynthos, Skyros from Skiathos and Kos from Rhodes.

Greece offers a simpler type of holiday than its counterparts in the western Meditteranean with plenty of places to get away from the crowds, and a vast number of beaches to chose from.
